Exploration means traveling to a new place to see what is there. People in all times and places have explored. Even children like to explore the world about them.

Roald Amundsen(1872-1928) was a Norwegian explorer. He led the first group to reach the South Pole. They got to the South Pole on Dec. 14, 1911.

Henry Hudson (1565?-1611) was an English explorer and sea captain. He made four attempts to discover a northern route between Europe and Asia.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau (1910-1997) was a French oceanographer. An oceanographer is a scientist who studies the ocean.

Ibn Battuta (1304-1377?) was a famous Arab traveler and writer. He visited western Europe, western Africa, and the Far East.
